Yeah, definitely do some cardio....it cuts a way the fat that covers your abs...also try doing things like ab bicylces...you move your legs in a cycling motion(which are elevated) like your doing a crunch and touch your opposite elbow to your knee...and do this rather quickly...and when your doing your 2 inches try moving your legs over each other and under each other and then kicking them all the way up as far as you can as if your going to kick the ceiling and then bring them down. Also, a thing that many people tend do overlook is the lower back, the stronger your lower back is, the more your abs are pushed out and defined. Definitely try and target some hips too...like doing bends and stuff.

You cannot spot reduce, which means that you cannot reduce fat in one single area. When you lose fat, you will lose it everywhere. Losing fat in the waist is the most difficult, as fat mobilization around that area is slower.

Cardiovascular exercise, such as running and cycling, is most optimal for losing fat. If you perform this form of exercise right before your breakfast, your body will burn calories faster during the entire day.

lots of sit ups, run and swim to give your whole body exercise, swimming in particular burns calories but doesnt jar the joints.

build up your abs all you wnat - but if you want to get rid of the fat, you have to do lots of cardio to burn the fat all over your body and alter your diet to lose fat too. working out creates muscle. it does not turn fat into muscle. fat has to be burned of fwith cardio cardio cardio. super fun ;)
