Yes, and I had high expectations for it, which is probably why it fell so short. My chief problem with Eragon is that it basically rehashes every stereotype and cliche we've seen in SF/F since Star Wars and Lord of the Rings. Basically, it IS Star Wars, just with dragons instead of Jedi. The whole thing was predictable all the way through. We even have a horribly flat antagonist. Why must there always be an evil overlord? Why? Eragon falls into the same holes as so many other epic fantasies. I honestly don't think it would have gotten this much attention if the author hadn't written it at such age. Marketing says you can sell anything if there's a story behind it, so they sold Paolini instead of Eragon. He did cable news, talk shows, and more to promote his book, and it worked. If Eragon were forced to sink or swim on its literary merits alone, I don't think it would have done nearly as well.

Eragon in and of itself is a good book. The writing style... not so much. Maybe I'm just biased because Paolini wrote it when he was like 15 and I have, as yet, to get a book of my own out there, but he just sounds like a pseudo-intellectual git. I've put quite a bit of thought into this and have come up with some reasons which put him on both sides of the good/bad fence but I'll save that for those who are interested in the author. Eragon is definitely no Harry Potter, but it can sure give the series a run for its money.
Unfortunately fantasy has kinda run out of ideas and themes and Eragon too must fall prey to the monotony and thievery of the great fathers' (and mothers' of course) of fantasy works. The plotline is easy to follow, and keeps the reader interested to see what happens next. Lots of big words that really dont fit in with the story, but hey, i didn't write it so i can't say much. All in all, a pleasant read.

Yes and I did not like it much.Eragon is very much like most other fantasy books, full of weird magical creatures and action scenes. However it is just too wild to follow properly, with very harsh kind of a language-just like most other books of this genre. That is where Harry Potter scores over other fantasy books.Unlike other magical books,Harry Potter is methodically written and seems believable. But then Christopher Paolini wrote it at such a young age and so deserves a lot of credit.
