Saliva is there to disintegrate the food (slightly). So, when foods are offered, it is quite a natural phenomenon for the mouth to water.

As a matter of fact, even if you imagine preparing a delicious snack or drink (imagine extensivesly each step), your nose tends to feel that fragrance and your mouth waters.

This activity is carried by our nose and brain. When we smell delicious food through our nose ouse nasal cavity takes this message to the brain and the brain reply by our mouth by watering.
