Marsupials appear to have a good birth delivery system with no chance of death in childbirth for either mother or babyt. Why did the marsupial system become largely confined to Australia, while placentals became worldwide - what is more efficient in carrying an embryo in the body as opposed to in a pouch. Plus, the pouch provides an excellent carrying device for the mother freeing her hands (paws) for other things, and protecting the the baby

Good question.
My answer would be efficiency. The marsupial method is very slow. The young start off really really tiny and stay in that pouch for quite a long time.
