For calculating a lighting circuit, a 15 amp circuit can have a total of 1440 watts. For circuit calculations, watts is based on the maximum rating of the fixture - not the watts of the lamp you put in the fixture. Many recessed fixtures are rated at 150 watts - but people only put 60 watt lamps in them. For circuit calculations, you need to figure these fixtures at 150 watts. That way, in the future, if somebody puts a 150 watt lamp in the fixture, it will not overload the circuit. The minimum wire size for a 15 amp circuit is size 14. It is best to keep lighting on circuits separate from receptacles and appliances.

If you want information regarding what type of lighting to put in each room, visit a lighting showroom. Take a set of layout drawings for the home, and they will be able to help.

you need to be careful, some rooms, like the kitchen must be on it's own dedecated breaker, Consult a licensed electrcial contractor in your area, but all lighting loads are on a 15 amp circit breaker ( NEC code )
