You can get "Baby Vapo Rub". Its not as strong as the norm. However, never use any type of medication, as harmless as it seems, before checking with the babies pediatrician!!

You should not even use sun-block on a baby under 6 months. Don't use vapor rub either. The reason is because medications are absorbed through the skin. Using sunblock or vapor rub is equivalent to giving a baby adult aspirin because how the chemicals are absorbed and an infants body mass is so small. Try a water vaporizer you plug in to put moisture in the air instead.

Yes it is safe to use vapor-rub on a 4mth old, when i used it on my son he was 3mths old. Just put a little bit on the chest and a little on the back and that should do it. Also which really helps is a cool mist humidifer I usually leave it on whenever my son is asleep when he is sick. But on the vapor rub do not put it under his nose!

I'm thinking that about 15 years ago I heard that Vix Vapor Rub was not good for babies and small children.

There was a time when Vix and Mentholatum were the only thing on the market.

Please ask your doctor or call the pharmacy.

Hope that little babe will get well soon.

Do not use regualr vapour-rub on babies. It burns their skin, it isnt recomended till they are over 2 years of age. Even then it burnt my daughter and she'd scream and get a massive rash.
Apparently there is baby one which is obviously for use on babies. Go and find that and read the label as I'm not sure if has an age recomendation. But the normal one is way to strong for a tiny baby.

yes, a little dab around the nose (dab not dallop) and put some on the chest and cover with a shirt that you do not use much anymore (the petroleum in the vapo rub will stain the shirt)

you can also use a humidifier or vaporizer as well

good luck
