You don't want it to cut off circulation, but you want it to be as snug as you can comfortably get it. Too loose, and when you make movements, your foot will slide around instead of the board. You want the board to respond, so you'll want your boot to be comfortably snug.

This is an area that is often overlooked by beginners and intermediate snowboarders. The answer is that you want your bindings very tight. However, it should not be causing numbness in your feet or any pain. If you're a beginner you're going to natural have some unusual pain in your legs, ankles, and possibly the arch of your feet. But this is because these particular muscles do not get strengthened in many other activities.

If you feel that you're having difficulty getting your bindings snug, it is possible that the backs or straps are adjusted wrong. The other likely possibility is that your boots are too big or just plain old cheap.

Good boots are very important! Make sure if you go to the store to buy a pair to bring the actual socks that you plan on wearing on the slopes. Try the boats on and walk around if you feel any slippage they're too big!!!

If your feet are turning blue, its probably tight enough. But seriously it should be tight enough that your boot won't lift off the base for whatever motion you can think of, and like that chick was saying, have your strap cushions centered on your boot, you may have to screw around with a screw driver to set them up, and set your binding angles so that there is no foot pain. Take a run and adjust it and keep repeating until you feel good. Mine in the front is 21degrees, and 18 in the back. There is always tools at the mountain for people to use, just ask an employee.

Well you do want your binding straps to be pretty tight as long as you can still feel your foot....but you also need your highback really tight on your leg..its not good to have tight straps and your highback is 1/2 in away from the back of the boot... so make sure that is also snug on your boot

Snug, or tight. You can injure your ankle if it's too loose. Too tight might hurt. You just want it to let your ankle move ever so slightly.

it should be tight enough so it will hold you in, but you have to be comfortable in it.
