you have a phobia of thunderstorms. now-a-days phobias are commonly found as a leading mental anxiety. you can do things to overcome the fear of this particular thing. Firstly you should try counter conditioning. In this process you should train yourself to substitute a relaxation response to the fear response in the presence of the phobic stimulus. Since relaxation is incompatible with fear so it will counter fear. you do this gradually and systametically to finally desensitise you from the phobia. you may also seek help from other similar people who are already responding with relaxation rather than fear. By mixing with them, watching and imitating them will boost your efforts. finally, you can go to a psychologist or a psychiatrist for professional help. remember, you can overcome your fear - start today to work on it!

There is nothing wrong with you-
Not too many people could easily
get to sleep in the circumstances
you just described.

I hate thunderstorms too-
esp if they are accompanied by wind.
You might try turning up the radio
or TV a couple of notches-

I'm not certain that any
one solution is the answer-
because you may be too
worried to go to sleep.
At any rate, take some comfort in
the fact that you are not
alone in your fears-
and hopefully, the thunderstorm
will die down shortly.

This sounds like it may be a phobia. Phobias can develop from experiences you've had or could be linked to specific fears. The best way to calm down, for you at this moment, is to make sure you are in a safe place. The basement would probably be the safest. If you don't have a basement, a central location in your house with supportive frames (like doorways) is a good spot. While the storm is happening, if you cannot distract yourself with t.v., music, phonecall, etc., tell yourself this: "This storm will pass. I am o.k. I will be safe here."

After the storm, seek counseling for this fear. With counseling, it will get easier and easier until one day you are only mildly concerned or not concerned at all. Just remember, the storm will pass. You are o.k. You will be safe.

There's nothing wrong if that's the way you react with that kind of situation. Try to do things that give you interest or stuffs that you let to forget all of those threats. You can even pray to over come you fear. I am a christian, and as a believer I can really say that talking to God is like putting yourself in peace.. Don't worry God is there to comfort you.!!!!!!!!

There is nothing wrong with you. Try music, or turn the TV up louder to drown out the noise. It's probably too late to call a friend, but if you have one that will be up and you normally laugh together, this would be a good time to do that.

Listen to soothing music, or turn on the t.v.. If you still feel uncomfortable, make a snack for yourself, then drown out the noise using an ipod or Walkman. I fear storms, too. I think it's normal to feel frightened like that.

I'm afraid of the dark! I listen to audio books at night to help me relax. Try that. If it's possible, maybe move out away from the area that gets tornados too!

Try going to counseling to help answer that question? It must have been stemmed from something that occurred in your life.
