I am a teacher. I run an english speaking, coaching class. Is it a taxable service? I mean will I have to register for service tax?

For an english teacher you don't talk english so good.

Anyway, that was all in fun.
I would think that if you provide a service and receive moneys for this service, you would have to file taxes for that money.
You would probably be able to file as a home based business and I don't believe you have to register for that. People that teach music at home do not have to register. But you could if you wanted to.
But I'm not sure where you are at either. This is different in each country I'm sure.

Please ring up the Department of Central Excise and service Tax for information on the list of Services covered. If your income does not exceed Rs. 8 lakhs, you won't have to bother from first April onwards in view of the raising of the limit.

If you are running a biz, you should pay tax to the taxman.
I wonder what sort of coaching (sry i misspelled, Didn’t I?) you provide though.

Good Luck
