Cirrus clouds are higher. Cirrus clouds are a thin and usually spread out. Stratus clouds are much bigger, thicker, puffier and are at a lower altitude. They can eventually turn into a bigger cloud which produces thunderstorms and those are then called cumulonimbus.

cirrus my friend, I am not sure what a status cloud is, you probably meant stratus. However there is a cloud called a cirrostratus cloud which is very high but also uniform across the sky.
