Excellent question and point: U.S. Imperialism is alive and well and has been for many decades.
Unfortunately, too many Americans believe the propaganda the corporate news channels broadcast (you can turn it down but not off :) and don't have a clue as to what they are actually PAYING FOR with regard to foreign policy.
I really think its too late - given the degree of ignorance and apathy in America. I believe we will be "checked" by the rest of the civilized world - and I think it will be done without spilling a drop of blood. We are already indebted to our eyeballs to China of all places... I don't think it would take much for our system to be collapsed if we don't change our ways.
Eisenhower warned us about the military undustrial complex, and subsequent administrations paid absolutely no attention to that warning, BUT NEITHER have we the people...
I don't believe that ignorance of what is really going is an excuse... the facts are out there for patriots to find.

I appreciate the way you have thought this through and that you care enough about morality to question America's past actions. However, I disagree with you that America is the New Rome or Babylon. The atomic bomb was only dropped when it was necessary in order to save a very large number of Americans and end a devastating war. Can you imagine how difficult it was for the President to make that decision? Once again, excellent question.

First of all the Germans were 6 months from having the A-Bomb, read up on that, so Truman had to roll the dice. What he did was his duty, he put America first. And no the USA is not Babylon nor Rome, the USA is a unique phenomena that allows the most people the most rights possible along with the most opportunities. And just because not everybody has a perfect heavenly life in the USA does not mean that it isn't the best that humanity has yet achieved. God help the entire humanity if the USA goes down for then we will all have failed.

We certainly are not an enlightened country, are we?
I don't think that there has ever been a nation quite like ours before, but your comparisons are right on the mark--especially when it comes to the Roman Empire. Will we eventually be overrun by hordes of barbarians? Or are we the barbarians??
I think that we speak with "forked tongue" when it comes to morality and the value of human rights! Not only did we use the atomic bomb, but we used it on civilians in the most Christian city of Japan at the time--Nagasaki. And who is our new "business partner"?? Why the most monstrous of all violators of human rights--China, that's who. (But we have a vehement hatred for Cuba--lil' ol' Cuba????)
BTW...I thank you for your service to our country, and I think (lovingly, of course) that all Marines are just a little bit crazy. (At least all of them that I know), and I would choose a Marine hands-down, to be beside me if I ever needed to be a participant in a battle!!!
Semper Fi!!!!!

As for the Atomic bomb, "desperate times call for desperate measures." WWII was a desperate time. We do not try to eradicate races, we do what we can against those who oppose freedom. We only consider the extremists to be the enemy of the religion of Islam. No we are not the new Rome or Babylon, we are the United States, we do our best, plus we do not call those to the North of us "barbarians" which actually means they are not Greek, and those to the South are not called Carthaginians. I do not bash patriotism, I do bash those who do not get their facts right. Let me guess, you got this stuff site off of either a liberal news station, magazine, or website and believed every word of it.

I won't call it Babylon or Rome, but I will call it crazy. This "war" and it's instigator Bush have made the most serious foreign relations mistake in modern history. I'm sorry people had to pay for the idiocy with their lives. Damn sorry.
