actually the largest bears are polar bears, and they are also the only bears who are strickly carnivores, the others are omnivores.

Check out wikipedia. The largest bear is the kodiak. The second is polar bear. They're not even close - the kodiak is typically 1500+ lbs where the polar bear male tops out at about 1300. The largest rumored kodiak is 3000 lbs.
In current events, this question was incorrectly mentioned on the show "Are you smarter than a 5th grader?" - they said the answer was polar bear. I guess the writers for the show are NOT smarter than a 5th grader as many know this to be the true case. I suppose they think the anaconda is the longest snake in the world too...

Polar bear adult males average 880 to 1,320 pounds. Kodiak bear adult males average 660 pounds. The largest Kodiak bear in the wild on record weighed 1,600 pounds. The largest polar bear on record was about 2,000 pounds. Kodiak bears do occasionally reach 1,500 at their zenith which is in the fall just before they den up for the winter. A brown bear can double its weight in the fall compared to its weight emerging from its den in the spring. Polar bears do not hibernate and consequently weigh roughly the same all year, depending on the availability of food. A polar bear can be 10 feet tall. A Kodiak is usually 6 feet tall, sometimes 8 feet.
