Like most liquids fuel condenses in the cold (and expands in the heat). It is normally colder at night so you would get more fuel for you money the colder it is. That is why you fuel your car as night.

At cooler temperatures (below 50° F), gasoline has a lesser volume than it would at midday because the molecules would be more tightly packed. This way, your filling up the tank 100% at night would mean you'd probably have 110% at noon next day.

ok maybe not 110 percent but you'll get more for your money

I believe the correct answer for this question is because, if you don't and there is a major disaster and you can leave, you have a full tank and can go longer and not have to worry about stopping for quite a while...

to reduce any air space.........cooler temperatures cause moisture condensation........this practice reduces the possibility of water condensation in your fuel.............and also the theory that cold fuel will expand the next day......giving you more volume......at least until night temp,s cool again......then reducing your volume.

bc the gas station is less crowded and you won't get in your car in the morning and be pissed that you have to get gas on the way to work.
