I asked this question earlier but really got no response, so I am asking again because I would really like to know! I don't watch much tv, and do not have basic cable, and I want to know of any companies that provide broadband internet access without requiring cable access. Please suggest anything!

I have the satellite access but it's a local company. I think Charter ( if you can get that) has the same thing

There are a couple of options if you do not have cable. If you have a home phone, then you may be able to get DSL, which is a form of high speed internet. You should check with your local phone company to see if they offer it. Also, there is satellite internet. The largest is Hughesnet. The link is at the bottom of the page.
It's not cheap and you must have a clear view of the southern sky so you can point the small dish towards the satellite in space.

Hope this helps!

If you don't want to use cable (it is the fastest connection for home, by the way) you can either have satellite (very rare) or DSL (Phone line). Call the provider in your area to find out. Your best choice would be DSL with the phone company.

Broadband means cable. They have to unlock your cable tv in order for you to have broadband access for your computer. They'll probably make you get a cable tv/broadband package. If you don't care about having cable tv, just get dsl, it's just about as fast.

Quest has DSL without cable TV and Cox Cable offers just internet access alone. It's just cheaper when you bundle the services.

DSL is pretty fast. Your phone comany may offer it. In fact, I like it better than cable, and it costs half as much. I pay $20 a month for 3.0 mbs with AT&T.
