It was picked off a tree (southern california). It looks like a fig but it is yellow. It smells like a pear and has a tart taste. It is yellow inside and out and it is edible. Do you know what it is?

We grow multiple varieties of figs here in Texas. My Grandmother had a fig tree that grew a gold colored fig. You may actually have a fig.

it's hard to say, you could have had an unripe fig, or a quince. Do a google for pics of a quince you might find it...What did the inside look like?
