Cliques were for kids when you didn't belong in one. If you were a member, it brought some comfort, like it still does to some people. It's all about in-groups/out-groups.

Kid cliques are about their fear of not having a social life , everything is about friends and romance at that age.
Adult cliques are more about interests . . .
There are golf cliques, but I have no desire to join . . .
There are finance and flying cliques and those I will join.
Adults go where their interests are, no harm in that .

cliques are ongoing in life, their presence just gets more subtle the older and wiser we get
