I`ll have to agree it`s Kournikova for the women, although i like her very much. She is a pretty good player, no doubt, but her fame comes much more from her looks and celebrity lifestyle than from her talent for tennis.
From the men, i`ll say that Federer is overrated, but not in a bad sense. I`ll just argument that, by saying than many matches he`s won were decided weeks before they took place - his opponents give up psychologicaly even before the game starts. And he is just a man after all, quite capable of losing, as Nadal has shown us. ;-)

Sharapova is a very overrated tennis player. She too easily gets moved around by the best players and her footwork isn't good enough to deal with that.

I disagree that Nadal and Blake are overrated. They're rated just right. Half the season is on clay and Nadal hasn't lost a match on clay in close to 2 years. How does he not deserve to be #2? Blake is somewhere in lower top 10 now and that's where he deserves to be, as well. And the guy can play. It's all a mental thing for him now. He's capable of beating anyone in the world, but he has to believe that and not give up when Federer goes up a break, for example.

Instead, I'd say that Nikolay Davydenko is the most overrated player. A couple weeks ago, this guy was #3 in the world. #3!!! He NEVER, EVER beats ANYONE important. Nadal, Federer, Roddick, Blake and Nalbandian destroy this guy when they play. He does not belong in the top 5 at all. But consistency goes a long way, I guess.

for the men, i somewhat agree that it's james blake. but it's good that he's overachieving, in spite of his limited tennis abilities.

for the women, it's ivanovic. some writers have labeled her as one of the genuine stars of the wta. however, she doesn't have the results to back it up. sharapova has 2 grand slam titles, and several other tier 1 titles, so she deserves the attention.

I agree with James Blake, but if he would stop chocking he'd be a really good player.

Instead I'm going with Nadal. The dudes pretty much useless if he isn't on clay. He relys way too much on unforced errors. The way he's playing his ranking is going to drop down really low
