I just started taking birth control about a week ago and I wanted to make sure before I have any sexual relations, when it is fully effective? Some people told me after 3 months and some told me after 3 weeks. And what are the chances of getting pregnant after the first week? After the first month?

It is effective after one week of use. I notice that the manufacturers of the pills like other posters have said that during that first week you should use a back up method to prevent pregnancy.

Hi! I take avian and it's really effective. When just starting this you only need to use another form of contraception for 7 days, but of course you should always use another form of birth control such as condom so you cut down the chance of contracting a disease. It also helps if you take the birth control pill at the same time every day. Good Luck.

I've been told by my doctor, that it is one week. Unfortunately, the birth control pill totally affected my libido, so I didn't want to have sex anyway (guess it worked!!). I was also very cranky for about 3 months and less cranky for the rest of the time. Be aware that your hormones will be crazy, and you'll feel incredibly moody most likely. I would talk to your doctor or the pharmacist where you got the pill from about when it is most effective, but I've been told 1 week always....

From what I have researched on the internet if you are taking it properly... (started taking it on the right day, and take it every day) than you should use a 2nd method of birth control (condoms) for the first 7 days and after that it should be effective.

Ok most are effective after one full week. Just one week. You need to use a "backup" method (like condoms) during this week. But you should always use them as you know.
