Do you mean Spirit or the Opportunity?
They were both luanched, and successfully landed on Mar's.
The battery was to last only 90 days, and it's going on over 2 yrs!
one of them landed in a Crater, and the other is checking out a valley.
It was on the History channel 2 nights ago.
We only have had a 25% success rate with landing anything on Mars with that range and accouracy. It's dang right amazing!!
I was wondering when i saw that special if that roover thing, would look pretty darn odd and pre-historic in 20 yrs.

It depends where the planets are in orbit, but generally it takes about 8 months to get to Mars, give or take a couple months.
The preparation however for such a project is probably a few years. And I think the photos takes only takes a few minutes to reach earth (i believe the data is sent at light speed).

An efficient transfer orbit to Mars takes about 8 months, but it can be shorter depending on the orbital positions of Earth and Mars at the time of launch and how efficient you want to be (more efficiency takes longer).

Just a couple that was pretty cool stuff. If we can do that why the hell can't we be energy indipendent or fix other stuff? That thing was so cool. If we can do that we can do anything.
