I'm completely new to macs. I have a 450 mhz G4 mac that that has about 140 gigs of hard drive space and a gig of ram. Is it possible to buy a faster G4 chip? If so, how fast can I go? What do i need to know before doing so? how much would it cost?

THANKS!

Hello Ryan P,

A PowerPC G4 is the CPU. What kind of Macintosh do you have? If you have a PowerMac, which is the Mac's tower, you can buy an upgraded processor. It's kind of expensive and if you're new to Macs, you probably would be better to just buy a newer and faster Intel-based Macintosh and plug in your old hard drive into that.

You probably know that just updating the CPU isn't necessarily going to speed up your Mac with your old bus and other older hardware.

it is going to likely be fantastic for ordinary place of work responsibilities, yet you ought to not be paying extra advantageous than £50 or so - that's an fairly previous gadget (550MHz). With OS X on it, you will actually see an progression in case you get extra reminiscence to bump it to 1GB (whether that'll cost you yet another £50).

Your better off buying a new computer....Upgrading a Processor is costly....I'd upgrade your memory....You will see the difference.
