I have been know to have a non fiction, a sci fi and a romance going at once. I can't read 2 different fiction stories in one day or I get really confused but I can read a non fiction with a fiction and a magazine all in one day.
It was a practice I got really good at in college.

Normally I'll switch, maybe not simultaneously, but I'm not going to finish reading "Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince" and then dive right into "Fellowship of the Ring," or anything like that. I'd be more likely to pick up a humor or a "realistic fiction" or a classic. (Right now I've got "To Kill a Mockingbird" going.

I tend to have one novel going at a time, with a thick history book on the side.

I don't switch to another book before finishing reading one book. I have been interested in religions. I have read buddism, christianity, daoism, and confucianism. I usually finish reading several books on one religion, then, I start with another religion. I have read the new testament, but the old testament is too hard to understand.

I am currently reading:
2 different SCIFI Books
2 different programming books
3 different cookbooks
They're scattered in different rooms around the house, I grab the one that's nearest when I feel the desire to read.
