You absolutely will have to give some things up, but the rewards are great. Most things you can work around/some things may take a little longer that's all. No one should work 24/7 when they have a family. Spend quality time together, laugh together, plan both vacations and savings, no one is guaranteed tomorrow. Smile a lot.

Moreover, give your children the most important gift of all; the opportunity to know their heavenly Father; this is the best gift a parent can give their child; no child should be deprived from God's loving guidance and protection. Make sure they go to Sunday School and that you and others pray a lot for your family. Give them these roots and trust Jesus Christ to do the rest, and he will do abundantly good works in and through your family; He will bring the breath of life into you....

Families that pray together; love a lot more...

If you have to ask a question like this then you're missing the point. When you have kids, THEY are your life dream! If your "life dream" is anything but that, then you shouldn't have had kids.
And don't say "I didn't plan it- it was a surprise when I got pregnant", because you're not the virgin Mary. We all know that when you have sex there's a chance of getting pregnant, so don't act surprised when it happens. I will die a happy man if I get to see my kids grow into level- headed, kind, reasonable adults.

you need to give up somethings yes... by having children you need to take care of them a vacation is not a necessity its a privilege and if you can give your kids a good upbringing and at the same time work for your goals and have them not interfere with your family life then you've achieved a perfect balance. why not go and work for a family vacation instead! family has an "i" in it but it really should be a group or team effort. everyone involved needs to put their part in to make it work .if your a single parent you need to remember not to be selfish and to do thing with your family too.
we all have to grow up unfortunately.

That's pretty much the way it works... or at least in my world. After I had my daughter, I kinda lost everything that I was. Now I have to find a new self that includes my daughter and everything else that goes along with being a parent.

Yes, you do make compromises, but hopefully your children and having a family is part of your life's dream.
And hopefully when you retire, or have the opportunity you can somehow fufill your unlived dreams, even in the smallest way.
