Because he played better than Chicago's Patrick Sharp who got third star with no goals, no assists and was a minus 3 and on a team that got thumped badly. I'd be embarrassed to be picked a star when you lost by 5 goals.

Yup, I think someone was asleep in the wheel. Looking at the stats and Budaj and Finger ( 1g, 1a, +4) should have been contenders.

Goals and assists are only two of the things the announcers look at when deciding who gets stars. It's pretty arbitrary really. I didn't see the game, but my guess is that he had some blocks, steals, or other good defensive plays. Someone who keeps shots from getting on goal always has a chance to get in the three stars.
