Oh my gosh it is SO NOT OK to make fun of people who are overweight!! It happens way too much in our society. I think there's thoughts by some close minded people that overweight people "deserve" to be made fun of. I've even heard someone say that they make fun of overweight people to help them - like that would help them loose weight. Ridiculous!!

Being fat is a personal choice it's not a disability or a historically disadvantaged group of people. The medical and psychological communities exist to assist people with weight issues, there is no assistance for removing one's race or genetic disability. It's impossible to compare the two. And no it's not acceptable to make fun of anybody it's best to promote tolerance and acceptance. If you can offer support or encouragement it's only appropriate when requested.

I have had a weight problem most of my life to one degree or another and I have NEVER know a fat person who was not sensitive to remarks about their weight.
It is never OK to make fun of any area that someone is sensetive about.
I don't think it is ok to make fun of anyone about anyhing that might cause pain.
Over the years I am a LOT less senstive than I was but still I am aware of it and think why not look inside - a lot of people only see the package and never unwrap it to see what is inside

First of all, I'm 5'3 and I weigh 216 lbs. I mention this so you won't think I'm prejudiced against fat people. Now.. the answer to your question is: People can't help what race they are, but FAT people can help what goes into their mouths! I'm fat, but it's from my own doing, and although it's somewhat cruel, maybe some of the fun that is poked at people like me will nudge them into doing something about it!

Not that I think it's okay, but I guess it's because being fat is something people can change, and race isn't. Still, it may not be racist, but it's tacky as hell to make fun of anyone for anything, especially weight.

It's not okay to make fun of overweight people. But I've heard the argument that it's okay to make fun of them because they did it to themselves, it's something that they can help or change, whereas with somones race they can't change that! Either way it's wrong and it's not something anyone should defend.

I don't think it's ok to make fun of a fat person because of how they look, only if you know them and it's the whole person you're making fun of,and onlyif they deserve it.You can't NOT make fun someone just because they're fat, that's political correctness gone mad.

First off.. some people have medical condtions that don't give them the option to be skinny. SO NO SOME PEOPLE DON'T HAVE A CHOICE! People have actually died from such problems.
However... It is okay to make fun of fat people...if your fat.
otherwise your just covering your on faults.

Well, race or gender is uncontrollable. Obesity, except with the occasional disorder, stems from poor lifestyle choices, usually ones which people aren't willing to change.
