The wedding starts at 4 p.m. and is at a country club, so I believe it is going to be held outside.

It depends on the area of the country and the time of day. A cocktail dress is fine for an evening wedding. A black dress is OK in some parts of the country (like California, where more women wear black dresses to weddings than any other color), but in other parts of the country, it's considered inappropriate.

Yes! You can wear black cocktail/evening dress to a wearing. Just make sure it is an appropriate length and it is tasteful and elegant. Try using bold and dramatic colors for your accessories to bring out the black dress. Like red, gold, silver, or copper color shoes, purse, or jewelry. The "little black dress" can be worn to any event or function as long as it is classy.

I've seen people wearing black to weddings, I can't quite remember if I've seen a black cocktail dress, but I've seen black tube tops, black top and black bottom ensembles being worn together, so I'll say its alright to wear a black cocktail dress. I've worn black, but only for bottoms, I usually match them with another colour top like ruby red.

It depends, I have been in weddings where the bridesmaids wore black, so really don't see what the issue is. But I would wear it for an formal type evening wedding.

No - black is for funerals. Try to find a nice dress with colour that makes you feel confident in yourself and looks good on you. If you HAVE to wear black, jazz it up with bright colours like long jewellery, a brooch, lacy add-on or belt, coloured shoes or try to add diamontes onto it. A coloured lace insert around the bust area such as white, red, purple, pale yellow or mint green would look nice.
