It's an old wives tale. Some sources say 1 beverage a day is safe, others say 2, and a few even say that after the first trimester it doesn't really matter. I say it's kind of like junk food and pregnancy...a little won't hurt, but don't overindulge.

I drank 1-2 cups of coffee a day with both of my pregnancies. Everyone always told me I was stunting their growth. They were 8 lbs. 2 oz. and 9 lbs. 2 oz.

They say you can't have Caffeine because it increases the heart rate of the baby, I had caffeine I had Soda " Coca Cola" , during my whole pregnancy, I kept hearing the baby's heart rate and it was Perfectly healthy, The thing you have to learn most is how much caffeine is in products such as Coke, Coffee and Chocolate Coffee has the most so i never had regular coffee ate chocolate which has even less and coke has not to much. the other thing you have to learn is how much you have in a day limit it and you should be fine i had one can to 2 cans and switched to milk or lemonade, also i didn't drink coke all the time i had water one day and some thing else the next, and coke the day after that, hope this helps!!!

It's ok for a pregnant women to have caffeine. She just shouldnt have excess amounts of it. I heard it can lead to things such as ADHD and other things if the woman drank caffeinated beverages in excess. You should keep it to 2-3 cups of coffee or 1 or 2 bottles of soda at the most.

Pregnant women can have caffeine but only in moderation. If your physician has ordered no caffeine it's likely due to elevated blood pressure. High blood pressure during pregnancy is dangerous. When your blood pressure increases your veins and arteries constrict to toughen up the walls to prevent a "blow out." When this happens the baby is getting less blood flow. Less blood flow means less oxygen and nutrient to the baby. High blood pressure during pregnancy can also lead to preeclampsia which can be a life threatening condition for mother and baby.

Well, they can't over due it with caffeine because if you drink too much of it, it causes heart defects in the baby. I was told no more than 6 soda's a day or 3 cups of coffee.

Recent studies have found that higher caffeine consumption has been linked to a higher rate of miscarriage in pregnant women. A little here and there, with the approval of your doctor should be OK. However, if you are at high-risk for miscarriage(bedrest, previous miscarriage, etc), I would avoid it altogether.

Who said a pregnant woman can't have caffeine? Just as long as you aren't drinking loads of it every day, it is okay.

You can, moderately. If you work usually people drink like at least 5 cups a day in the office, now, that's bad for pregnancy. I don't drink coffee usually, but since I became pregnant I have craves for it! I drink one cup every other day. My friend has 3 healthy kids and I know she drank coffee every morning.

I heard that it was actually more harmful to the baby to suddenly gone without caffeine than it was to drink small amounts of it during pregnancy. If you've very tried to kick caffeine, you know what a killer it can be. Imagine your poor little one going through the same thing...

my pregnancy book and my doctor have both assured me that you can have around 3 servings of caffeine a day and it's safe... just make sure you still drinks lots of milk and water also.
