he did not do so many bad things! he took titles, he provided well for his family, he paid back the loan he got to start his own farm. he took in his second wife when she came to him. he ran with her all night when their daughter was sick.

Remember, killing Ezeudu's son was accidental.
Good conduct depends on who is judging the moral principles. According to Umuofia society, even hacking Ikemefuna to death was sanctioned only thing that Okonkwo was not the one supposed to do it.
The society itself put a lot of demands on Okonkwo. His father (who I think was the only sane/wise personality) was regarded a nonentity by the society and Okonkwo had to work hard to be seen as "unlike" his daddy. He got his titles when still young, catered for his family well, was the emissary sent to the other village, wrestled with the cat in living memory and brought his clan a lot of prestige (remember the founder of the clan fought the spirit of the wild for a whole week! amazing!! and this is what could be compared to Mr Okonkwo Unoka's might). He served as one of the egwugwu, he apologized when required to do so. Of course inwardly we know, he was quite chicken-hearted but the society set too high standards for him, so in upholding what society wanted, he was often over-stepping the boundaries. Society wanted the poor boy killed and someone had to do it. . . . the other killers were hesitant in obeying the gods. In a way. He was ruined by his society. He made blunders in doing exactly what society required. Explore closely all instances where you think show his bad conduct and you'll realize, he is not to blame wholeheartedly. Almost all people in this society are liars and hypocrites except Okonkwo. Take for example this Dibia who comes to dig out the Iyi-uwa. What is it was he looking for and did he find it really? He cheated and escaped clean with riches. Okagbue. . . .what a liar!He simply brought whatever paraphernalia and made the little girl enjoy the show of running around thickets and her father expending a lot of energy digging like a fool. The other is Obierika suspecting that Nwoye is like Unoka but being the hypocrite, he keeps his ideas from his friend!
If I were you, I'd point out that Okonkwo was the most well-behaved village with good conduct as per society demanded. He was a victim of his society. Be cautious in judging him and his society using today's moral standards.

Good luck.
