Schifflen and Moltke are good answers.....but they were "rear area" types............in the field, .Hindenberg and Ludendorff beat the Russians senseless in 1914-15 and then held of the Brits Americans and French as long as they could in 1917-18

Alfred von Schlieffen
He was the German Army Chief of Staff at the beginning of World War I. He was the general who came up with the Schlieffen plan.

Helmuth von Moltke
He replaced Alfred von Schlieffen as German Army Chief of Staff in 1906. He was the general who carried out the Schlieffen plan in August 1914.

Hope this helps.

Good luck,
