One doctor said she thought it was something viral, but didn't know for sure. I am broke out with bumps as well, but mine look different than my son's. We haven't changed detergants or anything, everything in our house is the same. No pets!! I even decided today to wash everything in hot water...I'm just doing whatever to try to figure it out. Took my son back to the doctor yesterday, 5 more doctors looked at him, and everyone is clueless.
I am ready to change doctors, b/c this is crazy. There has GOT to be ONE doctor that knows what's wrong with my son. I am worried that my older son, will end up breaking out as well. Please someone give me some suggestions!!!!

I've already asked this question and got alot of great answers, but I am adding more details. The bumps look like mosquito bites or ant bites....and they itch like crazy. The bumps I have do anyway, hard to tell if they are bothering my baby. He doesn't fuss much, but the doctor did give him meds for itching anyway. They are not chicken pox, at least the doctors don't seem to think so anyway. It's really hard to describe them, I'd put a pic on here but I don't have one. The bumps are on his stomach, thighs, arms, sides, and back. Mine are mostly on my arms, stomach, neck and back. I have looked for bedbugs, but don't see any signs of the little critters. I have a 7 year old son as well, and he seems to be fine. We live in a 1 bedroom apt for now, so we all share a bed. So, I think it's weird that my 7 year old doesn't have any bumps. The bumps on my baby look almost like pimples, some look as if they have some puss in them. We are going to the ER tomorrow, I'm frustrated!!!!

OK folks I Finally have a pic of my son's rash...also you'll see mine as well....mine is on my arm, hard to see b/c the bumps are light compared to my son's. Please give me some insight. Oh and someone asked earlier, no I am not breastfeeding. I didn't make it to the ER, but am very tempted to do so. I think maybe the best thing would be to ask his Doctor to refer him to a dermatoligist....always got to go through the doc first, b/c of medicaid.
OK here's a link to the pics

Maybe you could ask your doctor to draw your blood to see if there is something going on - since you also have the bumps.
I have never heard of anything like this - I hope someone knows what it is.
Good luck!

Wow--I can't believe 6 doctors have looked at the bumps and can't figure it out. You did not mention if they are itchy or if they have any pus in them. Also, where are the bumps (face, arms, stomach?) The location of the rash can also help to diagnose the problem. Also, do either of you have a fever or other symptoms? The rash could be caused by so many things. Try not to get yourself worked up about it until you go back to the doctor. It's hard for anyone on here to diagnose this without seeing the rash or knowing more details. It could definitely be a viral rash, or a rash caused by some sort of parasite (bed bug, scabies, etc.) Or, it could be an allergic reaction--sometimes these things clear up on their own and you never know what the cause was. Do you have any mold in your house? That could be another cause. I would suggest that you make an appointment with a dermatologist because they might be better informed than the doctors you are seeing. Hope it clears up soon!

We recently had a bout with bedbugs, ew, nasty critters that are hard to get rid of. They caused the same sort of bumps you described. If it was just the child I'd say something about food allergies, but the fact that you have them too definitely says something outside the body.
It's probably not an illness or else your older son would have it already.
What to do, during the early afternoon, pull your beds out from the wall. Look for tiny armored beetles, probably less than a few millimeters long, they'll be hiding on the wall, down in the carpet, the back of the headboard, and under the foundation mattress.
Have they done an allergy screen, just to make sure it's not a new pollen in the air or anything?

To say for sure I can’t. Can you put a picture on a web site of the bumps? That would be helpful. Are you breastfeeding? If you are it could be something that you ate and he and you had an allergic reaction. His bumps are different because his body is more sensitive to things like that. Try to think what you ate recently and if something made you feel sick or different. Something else that it could be is that you are overdressing him and he is too hot, and your bumps might be a coincidence. Also, are you giving your baby water (formula fed)? Is it from a faucet? Even if you boil it there can be bacteria that survived. Both of you could have got it.
Do you have mosquitoes? Check your house for bugs, the bumps could be bites. Sorry can’t think of anything else. Good luck, hope it gets better.

Hickem had a good thought with neurofibromatosis, but the bumps would not really look like mosquito bites. One classic diagnostic criterion is having several small brown spots that look like birth marks (called cafe au lait spots).
Are the bumps uncomfortable for your kid or just there and he does not really notice? Did they come on all of a sudden or have the been growing since shortly after birth?
Go to www.nf.org or www.ctf.org for more info.

Just a guess, but maybe you guys are allergic to dust mites? Try washing your bed sheets better and more often and see if the problem goes away. And I hate general practitioner doctors, they never know how to do anything. You're having skin problems, so try going to a dermatologist.

My daughter had something like that all over the lower part of her legs. They would bother her and itch too. They at first looked like warts but as she scratched them they seemed like bug or spider bites. Turns out they were cased by bacteria. Her doc gave us a topical cream (Mupirocin which is generic Bactroban) to use to help dry them and clear up possible infection and we used Caladryl to stop the itching.

Did it start under the armpits and spread? My daughter had something much the same that was highly contagious. Since she is already a dermatologist patient, I took her to the MD. She had something called molluscum contagiosum. Here is some info. If this is what you have, you will all need to be put on medicine to kill the virus.
