Hamsters are nocturnal and don't change easily! Also, for the squeeky wheel, take a Q-tip, dip it in vegetable oil, and rub it on the part that squeeks. It works really well.

May be you should have gotten a cat instead. Hamsters sleep during the day and are awake at night. There are wheels available called silent wheels, they are a lot quieter then others. The bar chewing is not good for the hamster it can lead to teeth problems and brain damage. It's bored and needs to be entertained, put some chew sticks and an empty toilet paper roll in there for it to chew on. You can gently wake up the hamster during the day and play with it, but don't use your hand, since you may get bit doing this. Once the hamster is up, try to pick it up. Play with it for several minutes at a time and put it back to sleep some more. We have ours trained to be awake both day and night and they will now squeak at us for play time.
One can get used to the noise of the wheel, but it takes some time. We have at least 15 wheels all going at once during the night, not all are silent wheels either.

Hamsters are nocturnal... they will naturally sleep during the day at be awake at night. That is like asking you to sleep all day and stay up all night. It just isn't natural. I
If I were you, I would just move the hamster to a different room if at all possible, or learn to sleep with the noise.

I've had hamsters. It is normal for them to sleep all day and be awake all night. It is there nature to do this. The only thing you can do is put the cage somewhere else in the house so you won't hear it at night. Thats what I had to do.

I have an idea..why dont YOU sleep when your hamster sleeps and stay awake when HE is awake?
Problem solved!
On second thought, just give the hamster to someone who is not so bugged by it. It is clearly not the pet for you or your mother.

Sorry, but nature is against you here: hamsters are naturally nocturnal, and will tend to sleep in the daytime. You can try keeping him/her in a dark place during daylight and seeing if he wakes up - but it's hard to re-tune natural rhythms.

you've got the wrong pet. hamsters and gerbils are nocturnal by nature. your hamster will never be a daytime pet. it will become meaner the more you try.
before you get another pet, research it first.

Good luck with that.. and if you can't trim its nails, it may be best to give it to someone who can.
