Try going to START BUTTON / CONTROL PANEL / SYSTEM / HARDWARE / DEVICE MANAGER and deleting the cd drive letter. Reboot and let Windows find your drive. If this doesn't work you can (only if you are careful and have some knowledge of your computer) Go into the BIOS settings when you reboot. Change your setting for drive to AUTO and save and exit.

Try cleaning the lens if it does not work then take it to the repair shop where he would replace a new lens even if it does not work then I am afraid you have to buy a new cd drive and if that is the case go in for a combo drive which is slightly costlier but will be more suitable for the current configurations.

Conditions are important. Most likely it is because you smoke around your computer and the residue is blinding the laser.
How do you fix it? Stop smoking inside and clean the laser emitter with a cleaner that is friendly to the emitter surface.

You have two possible problems... If you have a DVD drive, too, check that..... if it's not working either it *might* be the cord to your drive. Chances are, though, that you need a new drive.

In order,
Try another disk.
If that does not work:
Is it clicking?
If so the drive is failing.
You need another one. If you don't want to take your computer to the shop buy an external one.
