Because the consumers do not care about themselves enough to act.

If you got people aware of an injust business practice (take your pick), and managed to motivate them enough about the subject to start a boycott, things would change. Unfortunately, most of us are sheep, waiting to for a shepard. That leave the role of wolves to the corperations.

Because there is no more consumer loyalty. The second there is a lower price on the market the consumer takes off. If you happen to have the lowest price on the market, then its gonna be really, really hard to "bad service" them away.
