There's a small movie that was a good meditation on the problem of 'losing yourself' as you get older called 'PS' with Laura Linney
http://imdb.com/title/tt0380609/
There's a line in it in which the heroine, in her late 30s, says that the young guy in the film made her feel like her real self again, for the first time in years, she felt like 'the girl' -- the one she expects to see in the mirror each morning and doesn't. But she starts to get it back again because of the way he treats her, like she's alive, and that she as an individual matters in the here and now.
We can't stop ageing and dealing with the heavy cares of worrying about children and elderly parents, but we can make an effort not to accept outside limitations and judgements and lock ourselves into mental prisons. I don't mean indulging in a kind of 'peter pan' mentality where we don't grow up, but we can face our responsibilities and still remember and preserve who we were when we were really young and had big dreams about life and our place in it. Then the rest of it follows the mentality -- how we look, feel, act etc. The key is to hang on to your private deep-rooted identity, what you really wanted when you were just a kid on the verge of adulthood and to still feel that freedom and accept the possibility that the future can fulfill your original hopes for yourself as much as for your family.

I'm really not sure what kind of things you like to do but I get really bored sometimes, being a stay at home mom, and I sometimes paint with my son. I think it would be fun to get a canvis or regular paper and paint a picture (a seriouse pic or silly pic). It makes me feel like a kid again when I paint with him so maybe it could make you feel like one again too. I love going to our local park and walking around or I sometimes just sit in my car and look out at the pretty scenery. But I go there without my son so I get to relax. Its great! Well I hope you get ur elixir------good luck!

I know the feeling, I took care of my mother and my Autistic son at the same time for a while. My mother passed away, but I am still taking care of the Autistic Son. There are days when I would give anything to be a kid again, but then I would not wake up to a sweet smile every morning.

Don't worry about it...if you would just let your husband make all the decisions like a good man should do and you be a submissive wife, you can be child like in a way and worry free.
