countries in the world combined. It is nearly seven times as high as China's and they have ten times as many people as we do. Yet with all that budget, we have to rely on the reserves and the national gaurd. Not to mention the fact that our troops did not have the proper equipment in Iraq. Where does all this money go? Are we, as taxpayers being fleeced???

Zdub - I am all for cutting edge technology and having the best military, but I am willing to bet China has some pretty high tech stuff too and at a cost of one seventh of what we spend.

I Hearth - I did check the facts. I even provided a link so people like you didn't think I was making up any facts. You are trying to compare apples and oranges. My question speaks for itself. why do you try and cloud the issue with non-sense?

You Know it!!
It is more than all the other nation's combined--
Remember Jefferson? His philosophy was that there should be no standing Army during times of peace. That everyone should keep arms in their closets--to form local militia's as necessary.
War is a Racket.

I was raised on fear I remember 1962 Cuban missile crisis...and every other crisis since that we have been spoon fed. each time a massive increase in military spending was required. The contracting business for the military is great. for the rest of us it's a tough business. I remember the $400 hammer uproar so we privatized the military supplies now we pay $4000 a week for a hammer and the knuckle head holding it to KBR. If you count all the other monies that are not openly list in appropriations bills we out spend all other counties combined by about 50 billion. more if you factor in CIA spending. but they say we are not safe yet. Fleeced was 40 years ago now it's like we are being gang raped.

The Military Industrial complex feeds on itself and the ignorance of the people

Again the Moonbats speak without checking the facts.
Defense spending is at about 4.5% of GDP if you include war costs.
During Carter's administration it was 5.5% of GDP. Why was Carter such a war-monger?

It's ridiculous how much we spend on stupid fighters planes like the F-35. We don't need it, there is no one can whip the current planes it's supposed to replace. It's going to be another F-111.

Americans are fat and overpaid. Although they get paid more they overall are very inefficient. USA spends much money on simply on maintenance such as their sickly veterans, overweight carriers and their satellite bases.
