There is already sex education in public schools. What is needed is the US society's support of using birth control.
The US is like an ostrich with its head in the sand when it comes to sex. TV, movies, magazines, vid games, internet are full of orgy porgy, and if folks think their kids don't notice they are idiots. So here we are, surrounded by all this sex, and we tell kids with raging hormones to wait until they are married. How naive and ridiculous!
In Netherlands condoms are advertised on tv--in the US Viagra is advertised. In Italy you can buy condoms on the street in vending machines--no embarrassment with the store clerk.
If they were readily available, with no shame, kids would use them.
Babies shouldn't have babies.
Perhaps a mandatory class in high school should be working in a day care center.

Honestly,I feel as though it will. I lost my virginity at the tender age of 13. I had no type of sex education whatsoever. Not from school, not from home because they felt like it would hurt me even more to know. After losing my virginity, I remained abstinent for four years to learn about the sexual aspect of a relationship and things of that nature. I just recently had my second 1st encounter. If I hadn't have educated myself, I'm pretty sure I'd be pregnant or carrying an STD. But most teens don't have the initiative to do things like that. If you teach them, although it seems they don't listen at the time, trust me, they do. That's coming from a teen...

Teenage pregnancy is actually declining in the U.S. Now the greatest percentage of single women having babies are women in their twenties. That said, I think freely distributed contraception and condoms might have more teens actually having sex, but less ending up pregnant.

It's a two way street with this situation for sure!!!! If you offer these things to them then they will see this as an encouragement to go ahead and do it and if they do fall pregnant then they can blame us because we offered it to them!! But yet if you don't provide it then the situation will increase in the years to come!! I think the best we can do is teach our children well and give them the proper knowledge and education at school and especially at home so they grow up knowing the right thing and wrong thing!! Sex has become a trend thing at school these days and if you are not doing it then you are not cool so we have to start teaching the children to become an individual then a follower!!

No, not really. It would most assuredly promote sex in teenagers, and those methods are not foul proof, and can be used improperly. If you want to decrease teenage pregnancy, then they should be taught abstinence, from as early as preteen hood. Girls especially should be taught about self respect for their bodies, and how to say no. They should know that if a boy wont like them anymore because they wont have sex with the, then its OK, and that the girls have the power. contraception will send the message that it is OK to have sex, but just not OK to get pregnant, and when they fail, more abortions will occur, and more teenage suicides, and depression because of the fallout that happens afterwords.

No I don't think, I don't think that a lack of education or hand out of condoms is way teenage girls get pregnant. I think it is that they want one not really knowing or understanding that raising children are very hard and costly to take care of. Also with the guys telling all these girls out there that "If you love me you will let me take my condom off and show you how good it really feels" I got pregnant when I was 19 yrs old and it was because all of my friends were having babies and I wanted one because of all the attention they were getting for theirs. It is sad but it is true. NOT THAT I REGRET HAVING MY LITTLE GIRL AT ALL!!!! I think there need to be more parents out there more involved with there childrens life!

yea, perhaps it is parents not doing their job correctly and just dismissing the problem, i know when i was growing up it was well known in my house that if i got a girl pregnant then my mom would beat me to death, then she would date a guy just so there would be a guy to come over and beat me to death for my stupidity, then i would be out of the house and i would have to find a way of supporting the girl or else i would still get beat to death
it is funny how parents do not pay attention to their children and then all of a sudden it is societies fault that the child did something dumb

people who think that contraception will make young ppl want sex more are BOGUS!
anyway...
when girls can get contraceptives (birth control) freely....without the stigma that seems to follow....teen pregnancy will decrease. Why do young women have to feel like sluts for having sex while it is expected or natural for boys their age to be sexually active?
if teen girls are all suppose to be virginal....who the hell does society think all these young boys are having sex with?

Not only would it lower teen pregnancy but it would also reduce the percentage of teenagers, and some adults in the future, would have sexually transmitted diseases. It's a proven fact that abstinence-only education just doesn't work.
