OK, so I was skateboarding today and I feel and caught put my wrist down to catch myself. It hurt A LOT and i was just lying there for 5 minutes. I got up and it hurt still but i kept skating. It is still hurting like hell. i took some excedrin pm but you know, all the pain isn't gone. Is it broken of sprained. Its not swollen, but some of the veins on my wrist are a little bit more up than usual. I can move my fingers and my wrist. my mom says it can still be broken though. Is it? Thanks

It hurts on top of the wrist. It is my right wrist, on the left side of the top of the wrist. When you press on it, it hurts bad.

No, there isn't any ugle bruise. It just hurts.

Science whiz is having some fun and is close to being correct. There's an old maxim in emergency medicine: "There's no such thing as a sprained wrist in the emergency department." Even with an exam by an experienced doctor and an x-ray, a good doctor will never say it isn't broken. Common fractures of the distal radius and the navicular are notorious for not showing up on film. If it's been hurting for some hours, it should be immobilized even if that means having to go to the doctor for a splint.
So far this year I've diagnosed two broken wrists that didn't show on the initial x-ray but did on follow-up films a couple weeks later. Luckily they were diagnosed and treated without waiting for x-ray confirmation.

You could have a fracture, some more information would be better. Is the pain in a specific spot? Does your wrist have a very ugly bruise? If it does it is probably broken, but you won't really know without an X-ray. If it continues to bother you go to the E.R. to check it out.

Possibly. Head to an ER and get an x-ray. That's the only way to tell for sure. By not doing it sooner, you could be setting yourself up for serious pain later in life. Get to a doc soon, and have them take a look.

For now, use RICE: Rest, Ice, Compression, Elevation. Wrap an ACE bandage or something around your hand and down your arm, keep ice on your wrist, and keep it over your head, and don't use it unless ABSOLUTELY necessary. Take pain relievers, and visit an ER.

its unlikely it's completely broken since you can move your fingers, there are doctor websites though like www.webmd.com maybe you can do some research
