I'm also pregnant and can't bear the thought that I have to be separated from my kitten. I find this site is helpful and maybe for you too

The bacteria a cat carries that is harmful to a fetus is picked up by a person much like and virus. You get it and build an immunity to it. Therefor if you have been around cats a great deal of time, chances are you already have the immunity. If you have not been around cats then you can pick it up and pass it to your baby. Ask your OB and I'm sure you will get a relative answer from him also.

Cats and Kittens are fine to be with, the reason you can't touch the litter is because there is something in their feces that is dangerous.

Litter of course no but the cats are fine. Just make sure your not touching all over their paws which have been in the litter and eat or anything. Don't let them walk on countertops or anything you will be eating. And if they scratch you, wash it out immediately. Im 18 weeks and I have my kitten around me all the time.

it is perfectly fine to handle your cat while pregnant. Just dont change the litter box because you can get toxoplasmosis(Parasitic infection involving the CNS/central nervous system and causing fever, chills, visual disturbances, confusion,hemiparesis/slight paralysis in one half of the body, and seizures.) This pathogen is also acquired by eating uncooked lamb, pork, unpasturized dairy products, raw eggs, or vegetables.

I had 2 cats with my first pregnancy and 2 with this one. I have had no problems. I do get to make the hubby change the litter though :O)

Cats are safe to handle. I have 3 of them and they sleep with me, lay on me and cuddle next to me. They're excellent company for a pregnant woman who is trying to relax, since they're just happy to have you around!
