There is a product on the market called "TERRO" which does wonders for getting rid of ants...But I forewarn you, it is difficult to resist the temptation to step on the ants during this process.

The ants WILL carry off the "Sweet Bait" to their nest, which you MUST let them do. The ants do not eat ANY of the food they gather in the field. What they do is store it in one of the three stomaches they have and take it back to their nest where they in turn will pass it on to ants that are hanging upside down in the nest. These ants do nothing but store the sweet treats in one of "their" stomaches till one of the ants passing by stops to get a "treat from that ant who will "spit" if you will, into that ants mouth and that ant will then actually eat the sweat treat at that time...in turn killing itself with the poison!

So, you see, If you kill the long trail of ants that will be carrying the sweat poison back to the nest, you will be defeating your purpose. Most folks are not aware of how an ant eats. And that an ant has three stomaches!

Try using ant stakes. You can put them outside by the door where they are coming in or in a place where they are that is somewhat out of the way. It is a piece of metal about 3" long with a disc on it with a wax like poison in it that the ants get and take back to where ever they came from and soon they are all gone. They are available at most hardware stores.

I have same problem! I have been using chalk, around the base of our house outside, and/or baby powder and for me it's working well. I run a line of chalk around the pet's dishes. I read another question about ants and one answer said cucumber peels, so I'm going to try some of those too. Sometimes I also will use soapy water with some mint extract added. There's a commercial product available at home improvement/hardware stores, that's "natural" and has these ingredients.

Good luck!

Aren't they terrible at the moment. I have a solution which my grandfather, a surviving aborgine from Tasmania alway told me and it works everytime. Generally there are more when it is dry, so put a small bucket of water with sugar near the colony, and be sure to sprinkle some peanuts around the bucket. They eat the nut, get thirsty and the sugar levels in the water cause a painless death as it ferments in their bodies and they sleep never to wake up.

Treat the outside as well as the inside of your home at the same time with a good pesticide. The bait things never work. If your in a trailer home you have to treat the pillars that hold the home off the ground.

Ants? If they are outside just leave them alone. Inside Black Flag has good ant poison. If it's a real problem then get all of the people and pets out of the house and set off a bug bomb. That should do it.

They make little tiny ant traps that you put under the sink away from your animals. Those are pesky little ants.
