I believe it's to learn.
After death, the soul moves on from body to body until it's learnt everything it needs to know. Then it can rest.
Thats what I believe anyway.

it depends, so many ppl have so many different lives... not everyone has a sunshine happy day life... so for most ppl those things that makes one happy, may not another.
