For a psychology assignment, I have to survey about 30 adults, half male/female, on "developmental tasks of middle adulthood." Because I don't know 30 adults, I was hoping there were some out there who could help? Thanks for taking the time to do it!

State Gender and Age
Psychoanalyst Erik Erikson believed that middle adulthood (between the ages of 40 - 65) has developmental tasks. Rate the following developmental tasks according to how they are important to you.

1= not important at all5 = very important

1. Helping your children make the transition from home life to the outside world
2. Strengthening your relationship with your spouse
3. Helping make the world a better place by assuming leadership roles in social and civic activities
4. Achieving mastery in your career
5. Adjusting to the physical changes that occur in middle age
6. Making decisions about how to spend your "second adulthood" (meaning old age)
7. Pursuing your passions
8. Coping with your own aging parent

Female 60
1. 3...The help you give your children should be started early so that it seems that they can make the move with little or no help from you.
2. 3...One would hope that you and your spouse are living your lives as one, especially if you have been together for a long time.
Sadly though it is at this time in married life that some marriages fall apart and split. If they don't split, they grow closer.
3. 2...It is only important to someone who is a natural leader. If you have spend the first fifty years of your life being a follower, old age is not going to make you a leading pillar of society.
4. 3...I will bet that at this age a person has gotten as good as they are going to get and are looking more to a happy retirement.
5. 5...Those changes are in this moment and are very important. Some people handle it better than others. Sadly to say this is usually when our past life style catches up with us.
6. 4...One thing I have learned about "old age" is that it creeps up on you and is here before you can decide what to do when you get there. Personally, I have decided that I am going to be a "youthful" old woman. Most people find it hard to believe that I am sixty years old.
7. 3...Passion is something that a lot of people don't ever have. If someone gets to old age and has a passion, they usually have the resources to pursue them. My oldest brother and his wife have traveled all over the world, fulfilling their passion for travel. They just celebrated their fifty-seventh anniversary.
8. 5...I am the youngest of eight children and our parents passed in '01 and '02 and we were all there with them when they passed. At the time we all had to cope in our own way with their illness and death. During that time it was the most important thing going on in our lives.
