mcafee works great when it works. it's hardly compatible with other security software and it uses a lot of system resources (it means it slows down a computer). i used to use norton and i was quite satisfied with that. the best antiviruses in these days market are NOD32 and Kaspersky. but however it's up to you what to choose ;)

McAfee good protection...LOL Cheap, pathetic and overly commercialized, horrible update times, anyone would be 10x better off with Avast for free. Enterprise is always good because half of all the ports are already closed, there's not much to defend against.
Personally if you want free, easy to use, pretty good software, I would check out Avast for your anti-virus and PC Tools Firewall for that. You can use Windows Defender for all the spyware and stuff like that or you can get spybot, adaware.
But the king of internet security I would have to say is Kaspersky then Stop-Sign. There updates area more than 3x daily. Pretty much you really don't need anything more than that, it'll do you good.

At my place of business (bank software company), we run McAfee Enterprise addition, which is basically just a beefed up version of the home edition (faster virus updates, etc). I have never had a virus come through that McAfee didn't catch. Just make sure you keep your virus definitions up to date. You can go into the options and make sure that it updates every day (which is likely already set for you).

I have used zone alarm for 2 years and it works great, When I first installed it, it found 2 viruses that norton missed.

Zone alarm was voted as best anti virus and firewall by PC magazine and many others.

Take a look at it at http://www.zonelabs.com

It has a 15 day free trial . I know you said "no $$$" but it is $19.95 per year and well worth every penny.

I think the two best are NOD32 and Kaspersky. Check out these links.

well, all of the antivirus applications you listed are very good and credible. Its just a question of which one is easier to use for you, and not as annoying to you.
