LG Chocolate VX8500 mp3 sound problem?

i thought it was odd that my 2 week old verizon headphones stopped working. sound was only being heard in one ear. i then bought an adapter where i can plug in my own headphones. but same problem sound was only coming in through one side. does anyone know whats up?
