We had the same problem a while back. One gal we did fire, but it was a few other reasons besides her saying she worked 5 hours instead of the 2 1/2 we know she worked. Sometimes it is difficult (depending on your business) to actually determine the exact time spent, unless you went time clock or salary. Announce that there will be some cutbacks due to financial reasons, and you will be doing random spot checking while they are working. Sometimes the fear of loosing a position can cause them to straighten up. Did with us. Good luck

It's not a punishment situation use a positive aproach! All they see is the money you're making and the check they get less taxes! Of course they don't see the Workman's comp, liability insurance, any maintenance and every other bill associated with running a small business. they think you can afford it and owe the the extra bonus. Simply give some incentive and let them feel like they have a vested interest in your business. Set up a reward program, like profit sharing or team goals that reap some kind of reward and all of this should include a point system and if they fail to make the mark they loose whatever reward you have in place . This will not elliminate the problem but it should curb it some and when the employees feel like a team they should police themselfs...

Fire them...best punishment ever. If I owned by own business and someone said they worked 8 hours and really worked 5. They are stealing from me. Fire one the others will know you are serious.
