It's coincidental that I happen to come across this question, as I've just finished watching it for the first time. I thought it was pretty cute. It's cheesy, but I think it was meant to be that way. I like Tim Allen and Courtney Cox. I love Kevin Zegers (the bad guy) and I thought the older girl was very pretty (her hair was gorgeous). Maybe people were dissing it because it came out after Sky High and thought they were trying to "copy" it. That's the only thing I can think of. Not all movies have to be mindblowingly spectacular. It's purely for entertainment!
