When you go to the new company ask them to switch your number they can switch it with no problem Ive done it a few times

Yes you can. Just ask. But if you live in a more rural area I suggest you don't switch to Verizon. I've had them for years and never got very good service. Once my contract was up I was going to switched but they had just got new towers so I stuck with them and it rarely was ever better.
