I take by the previous answers that it is like a global tracking system, or have I been led astray?

No and I never will. I do not like General Motors or their customer service. And they treat their Onstar employees like absolute dirt. I have seen about 10 employees of Onstar nearly have a nervous break down due to the bosses there and the conditions they have to endure.
I would NEVER condone nor subscribe to that.
