Should I Major in Musical Theater? I am talented in both voice and acting. I take private voice lessons, and I am involved in acting in any chance I get. I am really torn between Majoring in Acting, Voice Performance, or Musical Theater. If I do Musical Theater I can combine Voice and Acting, which would be really good....but my weakest point is dancing.... But I'm trying to work on that now. I'm in my school's show choir, and its basically just like Musical Theater. We dance, sing and act. But I'm weak on the dancing because I think it looks a little feminine....So if I can be confident in dancing, I think I should be ok.

Also if I do Major in Musical Theater, what should my Minor be?

Since you are both a vocalist and an actor, musical theater sounds like it would be right up your alley.

And there's nothing "feminine" about dancing!

Just ask Christopher Walken - that classic tough guy Hollywood characer actor got his start as a dancer on Broadway! (watch his films - he always has the directors give his character at least one dance segment - even in "Things To Do In Denver When Your Dead" where his character, "The Man With The Plan", was in a wheelchair!)

Along with your courses in acting, singing and dance, I would recommend you take classes related to the business of entertainment, because that will be very helpful to you when you begin your professional career in the musical theater.

As a musical theatre major at most places, Dancing MUST be your strongest point. Next comes voice, then acting. Unless you are god (how they put it here) with your voice, you must be a brilliant dancer. Most of your work is physical work. Also, you are worked all day. It's a challenging major, and you will forced to spend 8 hours a day dancing-- thats just what we do.

So, if you are willing to dedicate all the time you have before you go to college to brushing up on your dancng, and you are motivated to do so, by all means, DO IT! Musical theatre needs more dedicated, well rounded people.
But if you are not willing to work to be equally talented in all three aspects, don't. Major in theatre and minor is music or something of that sort.

Have fun in whatever you do choose, and welcome to the craft.

Dancing is not feminine! Do you know how much muscle you use during dancing?! You should do whatever you want to do. Musical theater does sound good for you. I can always admire someone who can both sing and act at the same time. A really rare talent!! I can only act, and I'm not great at that anyway. Hope you do good!
