"The Ghostway" by Tony Hillerman is a good mystery.
"Hitchhiker's Guide To The Galaxy" is a lot of fun, but might warp your personality a bit. It is a very fast read.
"Beer Blast" by Phillip Van Munching is an interesting look at beer marketing in the last 50 years or so.
"Jimmy The Kid" by Donald Westlake is a fun little crime caper. Crooks follow a book to carryout a kidnapping. What could possibly go wrong? Plenty.
Or you could cheat a little and do a book that you will probably read for class in the near future. "Night" by Eile Weissel is a rather short book, but one a lot of high school students have to read. "Lord Of The Flies", "Of Mice And Men" and "The Grapes Of Wrath" would be other good choices to kill two birds with one stone.

Have you read The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe? It's pretty short and, depending on your English teacher, you would get points for putting in your report that it's a Christian allegory. (That's a higher level of thinking than most 13 year olds are capable of.)

OK this book is 300 pages but don't that put you off, because once you start you won't put it down. It gallops along at a pace and keeps you going to the last page. It's funny, sad and adventurous. It's called Visitors by bob Chapman
