The plot centers on the years leading up to the French Revolution and culminates in the Jacobin Reign of Terror. It tells the story of two men, Charles Darnay and Sydney Carton, who look similar but are very different in personality. Darnay is a romantic French aristocrat, while Carton is a cynical English barrister. However, the two are in love with the same woman, Lucie Manette.

Perhaps you find the writing style of Dickens in the old English difficult to understand but The Tale of Two Cities is one of the best classics in world literature.The description is arresting and the plotline superb and full of suspense.The ending will leave you spellbound.The book is set before and during the French Revolution and the description of the aristocracy,the characters of Sydney and Madame Defarge are amazing to say the least.
