It's in the Lakeview East community. I lived there from 95-98 - I'm not gay; but when I first got married, our first home was a studio by Belmont and Halsted.

The night life is fantastic; I enjoyed going to the Vic, Dennis' place for Games and going to the Chicken Hut on Belmont and Diversey.

Everyone else is correct: Boystown is traditionally on Halsted street between Belmont and about Waveland (maybe a block or two past that. And there has been migration further north to Andersonville, which is on Clark Street from approx. Foster north to Bryn Mawr (Ironically, this same area used to be the unofficial lesbian neighborhood - the female-centric bookstore Women and Children First was one of the first business to cater to them - before the "boys" sort of took over. But there is also an unofficial "gay beach" located on Ardmore on the east side of Sheridan Road. For some reason, gay men started congregating there in the summer and it's now the popular place for gay men to hang out in the summer.

As far as restaurants located in those area, again, people above have offered some good suggestions. But if you're in Andersonville I'd suggest trying Hopleaf. It's got upscale bar food... I know, it sounds kinda corny but it's not buffalo wings poppers. It's a little fancier (mussels, a gourmet cheese platter that they can pair with the perfect beer from their list of about 100 beers, etc.). it gets crowded but there's seating upstairs too.

And there's a new gay sports bar that opened up in the Uptown area called "Crew". It's right next to the Green Mill jazz club on Broadway and Lawrence. They serve food there too.

The above answers are correct and Jack's is a great place, but you should also look into Andersonville. Most of the nightlife remains in Boystown, but the residents have migrated north.

Andersonville is a really interesting mix of some classic old spots like Ann Sather's and Calo, and new places like Hamburger Mary's, Hopleaf, Sweet Occasions and A Taste of Heaven.

Andersonville runs along Clark Street from ~5000 North to 6000 North.

It is part of Lakeview, and is generally considered the triangle formed by Halsted Street from Belmont to about Addison, and then Broadway back down to about Belmont. Lots and lots of restaurants there, including Jack's on Halsted, Nookies, and Cornelia, among others.

Yes, it's east Lakeview, boundaries are generally considered Addison to the north, Halsted to the west, Belmont to the south, and Lake Shore Drive to the east.

The link has restaurants.
